The Rioja Wine Tour | Spain

NC Wine Gals + Travel With António Tours | PARTNERSHIP

7 Nights / 8 days |

Itinerary Description

Day One | Late Afternoon Arrival | Hotel Check In

Our first day will be a shorter one since most of the arrivals in Spain will be happening late afternoon, which does not mean we will not have some fun and spend time walking around the most fun part of Logroño which will turn out to be a staple on our Tour: Calle (street in spanish) San Juan and Laurel where wine bars are plenty. Dinner will be at a well known Gastrobar where you can still order hamburguers so your transition to Spanish cuisine (and time) will be done at a slower pace.

Day Two | 28th October 2024

And so the wine journey begins! Welcome to the Spanish Rioja Wine Region. And what better way to start this amazing tour than going to a winery and having a tasting? That is what we will be doing late in the morning. At the winery we will also have Lunch (pic-nic) overlooking the Rioja Wine Landscape. Afterwards, we will have a first cultural and heritage stop at the amazing Labraza Castle and Medieval Walls as well as a small tour around this well preserved and charming little town, already in the Basque Country, founded as a defensive village in 1146 by Sancho VII, King of Navarre. Evening will be free.

Day Three | 29th October 2024

We will start our day driving to one of the most interesting wineries in the Rioja Wine Region, since it gathers not only the knowledge that drove the Rioja Valley to be considered the staple of Spanish wines, but you will also go through some of the highlights that, through centuries, were the base for that: roman ruins + romanic churches + medieval wine press.  Lunch will be at the Winery. From there we will, still, be moving through wine heritage stepping into a small riojan village where another Castle can be visited. An afternoon wine tasting will take place, again, with amazing views to the Rioja Wine Valley (weather permitting). In the evening we will have an exclusive dining experience.

Day Four | 30th October 2024

If you signed up to visit the most important wine region in Spain, then wine is what you get! That is why our day will begin at a winery visit visiting western part of the Rioja region. Lunch will follow after the tasting. In the afternoon we will visit Santo Domingo de la Calzada, one of the most beautiful and impressive monasteries in the region. The evening will be free.

Day Five | 31st October 2024

The fifth day of our visit encompases the cultural highlight of our tour by visiting the San Millan de la Cogolla Monastery - it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of the modern written and spoken Spanish language. Afterwards, we will have two  wine tasting experiences. All treats, no tricks! The day will end in Logroño where spanish/basque dinner will be brewing!

Day Six | 1st November 2024

The day will begin visiting the Clavijo Castle. It sits on top of a hill with an amazing view to the whole of the whole wine valley. That will be followed by lunch. After we have lunch we will participate in a very unique wine tasting experience. We will dine in one of the most typical areas and streets of Logroño, to taste the flavors of this incredible Spanish wine region, which will be an evening to remember.

Day Seven | 2nd November 2024

Pamplona, the city that is famous worldwide for the running of the bulls during the San Fermín festival, which is held annually from 6 July to 14 July. This festival was brought to light with the 1926 publication of Ernest Hemingway's novel The Sun Also Rises. Rest assured, we will not be running with the bulls! We will tour the city and visit some of its monuments before having lunch. Afterwards we will stop at a Roman Ruins site, before ending the day with our final wine tasting, at one of the most amazing places around, with an American inspiration. Your evening will be free to prepare for your journey back home.

Day Eight | 3rd November | Exit to Airport

It has been a set of wonderful days with amazing experiences, knowledge, scenery, history and incredible wines. Days to remember and cherish. See you next time! Obrigado.
